Abstract

Performance appraisal is an important function of Human Resource Management
(HRM) that helps organizations assess employee performance, identify strengths and
weaknesses, provide feedback, and support future development. An effective
performance appraisal system connects individual employee performance with
organizational objectives and contributes to employee motivation, productivity, career
development, and retention. Traditional appraisal methods mainly focused on evaluating
past performance, whereas modern approaches emphasize continuous feedback,
competency development, employee participation, and achievement of strategic goals.
This research paper examines the concept, objectives, methods, importance, challenges,
and effectiveness of performance appraisal in organizations. The paper highlights the
need for transparent, fair, technology-enabled, and development-oriented appraisal
systems for improving organizational performance and employee satisfaction.
