Abstract

The rapid growth of e-commerce has transformed the global retail landscape by providing consumers with convenient, accessible, and personalized shopping experiences. As competition among online retailers intensifies, customer satisfaction has become a critical determinant of business success, customer retention, and long-term profitability. Customer satisfaction in ecommerce is influenced by multiple interrelated factors, including website quality, information quality, product variety, pricing strategies, payment security, delivery performance, customer service, trust, personalization, and technological innovation. Recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, big data analytics, recommendation systems, and chatbots have further enhanced online shopping experiences by enabling personalized product recommendations, intelligent customer support, demand forecasting, and real-time decision-making. This review examines the major factors affecting customer satisfaction in e-commerce platforms by synthesizing recent theoretical and empirical research. The paper discusses the role of website usability, electronic service quality (E-SQ), consumer trust, cybersecurity, AI-enabled personalization, and omnichannel retailing in improving customer experiences. Furthermore, it highlights current challenges such as privacy concerns, cybersecurity risks, fake reviews, and increasing consumer expectations while identifying future research directions involving Generative AI, predictive analytics, blockchain, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR). The review concludes that integrating customer-centric digital technologies with secure, transparent, and personalized services significantly enhances customer satisfaction, loyalty, and sustainable competitive advantage in modern e-commerce.
